Hanmi Semiconductor opens US subsidiary Hanmi USA in San Jose
Hanmi USA held its opening ceremony on October 16, offering technical support to US customers as semiconductor plants ramp up.
Hanmi Semiconductor has established a US subsidiary, Hanmi USA, with an office in San Jose, California, according to inews24.com. The subsidiary held its opening ceremony on October 16, with Chairman Kwak Dong-shin and key executives in attendance.
Hanmi USA will provide technical support to US customers and deploy skilled engineers in line with schedules for new US semiconductor plants. The company did not disclose order volumes from individual US customers tied to the new subsidiary.
The Korean equipment maker says it holds the top global market share in TC bonders, the key equipment for making HBM by bonding multiple DRAM chips with heat and pressure. Hanmi Semiconductor recently supplies three types of 2.5D TC bonders and two types of 2.5D flip-chip bonders to foundries and OSAT companies, and is expanding its lineup with BOC COB bonders and EMI shields.
With the US office, Hanmi Semiconductor now has overseas bases in Taiwan, China, Singapore and the United States.
US packaging capacity expands
The opening comes as several chipmakers build out American production. In August 2026, SK hynix broke ground on an HBM packaging plant in West Lafayette, Indiana, targeting operation in the second half of 2028. Micron is building a new plant in Boise, Idaho, aiming to produce DRAM and HBM next year, and this year broke ground on a $100 billion facility in Clay, New York.
At the end of last year, Intel began 18A (1.8nm-class) process and advanced packaging production at its Chandler, Arizona plant, while Amkor Technology is building a new packaging production facility in Peoria, Arizona. On October 15, TSMC said it is discussing possible participation in Tesla's Terafab project.
Hanmi Semiconductor was founded in 1980 by Kwak No-kwon after 14 years at Motorola in the US; the name "Hanmi" reflects the goal of linking the Korean and US semiconductor industries.
