Hyundai Motor Group Integrates 'Physical AI' into Manufacturing
Chairman Euisun Chung is shifting the company's focus, beginning with the deployment of Boston Dynamics' Atlas robot at a US facility.
Hyundai Motor Group is actively implementing "Physical AI" across its manufacturing operations, marking a strategic shift under Chairman Euisun Chung. As part of this transition, the company has launched the Robotics Meta-Plant Application Center (RMAC) at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) facility.
According to etnews.com, the group is currently testing the deployment of the "Atlas" humanoid robot, developed by Boston Dynamics, within its production processes. This move signifies the company's evolution from a traditional vehicle manufacturer into a provider of "Physical AI" solutions.
The group has been steadily expanding its technological capabilities. In July 2026, Euisun Chung stated at the AI Summit in San Francisco that the group is expanding into autonomous driving, robotics, and AI factories. Previously, in 2023, Hyundai Motor Group reported a combined annual revenue exceeding 300 trillion won, with an operating profit of 20.546 trillion won, while Hyundai Motor and Kia sold approximately 7.27 million vehicles globally.
