LG Uplus's Pyeongchon 2 Center earns ISO 50001 energy certification
The certification covers the data center's energy management system, which LG Uplus is pairing with liquid cooling trials for server GPUs.
LG Uplus said on November 2 that its Pyeongchon 2 Center has obtained ISO 50001 certification, the international standard for energy management systems. The certification covers the data center's energy management system.
The Pyeongchon 2 Center is testing Direct-to-Chip liquid cooling, which cools server GPUs directly with coolant. The approach is distinct from air-based cooling in which cold air is circulated through the server hall.
LG Uplus said it is also expanding the use of outside-air cooling and improving the energy efficiency of servers and power equipment step by step. The company's AIDC operations are led by its head of AIDC operations.
The certification was reported by digitaltoday.co.kr. LG Uplus did not disclose further details of the certification or the cooling trials in its announcement.
Background
The Pyeongchon 2 Center is an internet data center with three basement floors and nine above-ground floors that was completed in 2023. From the design stage, it used a high-efficiency cooling system that draws on cold outside air to manage server heat.
