OpenAI's Brockman says enterprise business rebounded in Q3

Speaking at the WSJ Tech Conference, OpenAI's president pointed to GPT-5.6 Sol and ChatGPT Work and said the company could prepare for an IPO next year.

OpenAI President Greg Brockman said at the WSJ Tech Conference in Napa, California, that the company's enterprise business rebounded in the third quarter, attributing the recovery to the launch of the GPT-5.6 Sol model and the business product ChatGPT Work.

Brockman said enterprise sales have become OpenAI's largest revenue source, surpassing the consumer segment. He also said he thinks OpenAI will be able to prepare for an IPO next year.

The remarks were reported by aitimes.com. OpenAI had filed IPO paperwork in June 2026 but postponed its listing plan to the following year, and its latest funding round raised less than half of a $30 billion target, with the company valued at $1.25 trillion against a $1.4 trillion goal.

Enterprise competition

According to OpenRouter's September analysis, Anthropic and OpenAI now account for nearly equal shares of spending among about 120,000 companies using their tools, compared with Anthropic's roughly 75% at the start of 2026.

Brockman said that in the first half of 2026 OpenAI was, in his words, not even part of the conversation in coding. JPMorgan Chase recently signed a strategic partnership with OpenAI that includes access to cyber security models through the 'Daybreak' program.
