Pew: About 1 in 5 U.S. Adults Regularly Get News on TikTok
Pew Research Center's August 2026 survey of 5,166 U.S. adults finds 39% of those aged 18-29 regularly get news on TikTok.
About one in five U.S. adults regularly get news on TikTok, according to a Pew Research Center survey published on October 19, 2026. The figure varies sharply by age: 39% of respondents aged 18-29 said they regularly get news on the platform, compared with 25% of those aged 30-49, 11% of those aged 50-64 and 4% of those aged 65 and over.
Pew Research Center surveyed 5,166 U.S. adults aged 18 and over between August 24 and August 30, 2026. The same survey found that 37% of Americans use TikTok, and that among those who use it, 53% said they regularly get news there.
Steady share among TikTok users
The share of U.S. TikTok users who say they regularly get news on the app has moved little in a year. In 2025, 55% of U.S. TikTok users said they regularly got news on TikTok, nearly the same as the 53% in the 2026 survey. In 2020, the figure stood at 22%.
Separately, a 2024 survey by the same organization found that 21% of Americans regularly got information from news influencers with more than 100,000 followers. Pew Research Center has asked Americans every year since 2020 whether they get news from traditional media such as TV, radio and newspapers.
