Samsung briefs 50 affiliate executives on AI strategy with OpenAI's Sam Altman
The invitation-only session in Yongin covered where AI is heading, new business opportunities and how executive decision-making will change.
Samsung held an invitation-only meeting with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman for about 50 executives from its affiliates at the Samsung Human Resources Development Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on October 31, 2026, according to digitaltoday.co.kr. The session was held under the theme "The next 10 years changed by AI, the choices of companies."
Participants discussed where AI technology is heading, how it will be used, and what new market and business opportunities it opens. The conversation also covered how corporate decision-making and organizational operations will change with AI, and which capabilities executives will need to lead that shift.
Ahead of the meeting, the executives completed hands-on generative AI training — the second intensive course of its kind after the first in June. They practiced organizing scattered management materials with AI to build personal knowledge repositories, and worked on applying AI in decision-making.
Among those attending were Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics Jeon Young-hyun, Samsung SDI President Choi Joo-sun and President Mauro Porcini, along with the OpenAI chief executive.
Background
In October 2025, Samsung Electronics signed a letter of intent with OpenAI to cooperate on global AI infrastructure, and has since been pursuing supply of memory semiconductors for OpenAI's Stargate large-scale AI data center project. Samsung SDS pledged cooperation on AI data centers and enterprise AI services, while Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries pledged joint development of offshore floating data centers. In July of this year, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited OpenAI headquarters in San Francisco. Since June, Samsung has been running an "AI great transformation" across R&D, production, marketing and support work; about 2,300 executives have completed training, with the program expanding to all employees by February 2027.
