Samsung ad mocks iPhone Duo, says Galaxy Z Fold 8 is thinner

Samsung's Instagram spot 'Slice' chops up an apple to needle Apple's first foldable and credits Flex Titanium and silicon-carbon batteries for the Z Fold 8's build.

Samsung has published an Instagram video ad called Slice that mocks Apple's iPhone Duo for reaching the foldable phone market late and claims the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is thinner and lighter than Apple's handset, according to CNET.

The ad shows an apple being chopped into pieces, with one slice rolling past the Galaxy Z Fold lineup from 2019 through to the Z Fold 8. It closes by asserting that the Z Fold 8 is thinner and lighter than the iPhone Duo.

Samsung credits part of that thinness and lightness to a display technology it calls Flex Titanium, along with higher-capacity silicon-carbon battery tech.

Two foldables, two prices

Samsung debuted the passport-style Galaxy Z Fold 8 in July 2026 at $1,900. Apple's $1,999 iPhone Duo followed in September 2026, and CNET's Abrar Al-Heeti reviewed it.

Apple has trailed rivals on some hardware features before: it added wireless charging with 2017's iPhone 8, years after Android competitors. It later helped develop the Qi2 wireless charging standard, and in spring 2025 the iPhone 17 Pro took CNET's Lab Test for fastest wireless charging.
