Seagate Mozaic SMR drives added to Broadcom's approved HBA list

Microsoft Azure Storage qualified Broadcom HBAs paired with Seagate's HAMR and SMR drives in a hyperscale environment, Seagate said.

Seagate said its Mozaic drives, built on HAMR technology with shingled magnetic recording (SMR), are the first and only SMR drives listed on Broadcom's approved host bus adapter (HBA) vendor list. The company announced the interoperability results for its high-capacity storage aimed at AI and cloud workloads, according to datanet.co.kr.

The listing means the Mozaic drives have been validated for use with Broadcom's HBAs. Seagate describes the drives as using HAMR with SMR to raise storage capacity.

Separately, Microsoft Azure Storage completed qualification testing of Broadcom HBAs used with Seagate's HAMR and SMR technology in a hyperscale environment, Seagate said.

"Jason Feist, Seagate's senior vice president of cloud marketing, and Jas Tremblay, vice president of Broadcom's Data Center Solutions Group, were named in the announcement."
