Free App Lets Windows 11 Users Drag Taskbar to Any Screen Edge

Taskbar Location Options, developed by Michał Łeptuch, restores drag-and-drop taskbar placement on Windows 11, though installation currently requires PowerShell.

A free app called Taskbar Location Options is now available to let Windows 11 users move the taskbar by right-clicking or clicking and dragging it to the top, left, right, or bottom of the screen, according to windowscentral.com. The app was created by developer Michał Łeptuch.

Installing Taskbar Location Options currently requires downloading a certificate, unblocking the file, and running it with PowerShell before installing the app. The app's GitHub page includes a download link and an installation guide.

When Windows 11 launched in 2021, the inability to move the taskbar was one of its most criticized taskbar regressions, and restoring the option was one of the most-requested pieces of feedback for years.

Microsoft restored the ability to change the taskbar position in September 2026, but it requires navigating to Settings, then Taskbar settings, and selecting a position from a dropdown menu. Windows 10 and previous versions of Windows allowed users to click and drag the taskbar.
