Tesollo to lead 5.2 billion won project for 25-DOF robot hand

Tesollo will develop an on-device AI robot hand with precision manipulation and assembly control, funded through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Tesollo said it has been selected to lead a government-funded R&D project to develop an on-device AI-based robot hand with 25 degrees of freedom and precision manipulation technology, according to datanet.co.kr. The project falls under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 2026 Robot Industry Technology Development Program.

The project carries total R&D funding of about 5.2 billion won, including 4 billion won in government support, and runs from August 2026 to December 2029. Tesollo will serve as the main research organization, with Iron Device, Hanyang University and the Korea Institute of Robot and Convergence joining as co-research organizations.

The goal is a humanoid robot hand integrated with a multimodal sensor system, an on-device AI platform and manipulation algorithms. The hand will rely on a low-power, high-efficiency on-device AI platform that processes sensor data and runs the manipulation algorithms locally rather than sending them to remote systems.

The planned capabilities include re-grasping, adaptive grasping, in-hand manipulation and connector fastening. In the later phase, the hand and AI platform are to be integrated into a two-arm upper-body humanoid and demonstrated in manufacturing and assembly settings. The project targets a technology readiness level of 7 or higher.

Tesollo already sells multi-joint robot grippers and robot hand products. The company has said precise manipulation such as assembly, alignment and tool use is emerging as a key competitive factor in the humanoid industry.
