Bungie starts pre-production to unvault Destiny 2 content

Bungie said pre-production runs until January or February 2027, with roughly 12 months of porting work to follow.

Bungie has outlined a phased plan for the future of Destiny 2, including a pre-production phase for restoring vaulted content that is expected to run until January or February 2027, according to pcgamer.com.

In a community update, Bungie said pre-production on the unvaulting is already underway. Josh Deane, Bungie's head of product, said full production after that phase is expected to take about 12 months to complete the porting process.

Bungie framed the plan around three "anchors": a Destiny 2 celebration beyond Monument of Triumph, Destiny "Legacy," and an item the update redacted. The studio said Destiny "Legacy" means the whole experience needs to be served where players play today, with more information due early next year.

Bungie also said players should not expect a Destiny announcement at The Game Awards this year.

Earlier commitment to vaulted content

In September 2026, Bungie un-canceled Destiny 2, calling the game foundational to its future and promising to restore vaulted content. Josh Deane said at the time that Bungie is "not done with Destiny." The Final Shape expansion had closed out the 10-year Light and Darkness saga in 2024.
