Darrah says many Dragon Age: The Veilguard recommendations ignored

The former Dragon Age executive producer says some suggestions were only taken up when another group raised the same idea.

Mark Darrah, a freelance consultant on Dragon Age: The Veilguard, said many of the recommendations he made during development were not taken up by the team at BioWare, according to gamesradar.com. He described the consulting experience as frustrating.

Darrah said some of his suggestions were ignored at first and then accepted once another group put forward the same idea. He did not specify which recommendations were set aside or when during development they were made.

Darrah left BioWare in 2021 and returned only as a freelance consultant for the final stretch of work on Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game, developed by BioWare, was released to largely positive reviews but proved a polarizing entry in the series, with its writing and story among the most debated elements.

The interview also touches on BioWare's fortunes since then. According to the report, EA shut down the studio and cancelled Mass Effect 5. EA itself was taken private in a completed USD 55 billion leveraged buyout led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.
