Rockstar's Rob Nelson Details GTA 6 Mission Design in Full IGN Interview
Rockstar North co-studio lead Rob Nelson said GTA 6 missions aim to open things up where possible while preserving the quality of the experience.
Rockstar North co-studio lead Rob Nelson said Grand Theft Auto 6 missions were designed with a conscious effort to open things up where possible while preserving the quality of the experience, in a full interview with IGN that has now been published.
Nelson pointed to the GTA 6 Extended Look, which premiered on Netflix, as an example. The first mission shown takes place in a tower block and offers multiple routes out, he said.
He also described a mission where the player meets Raul and he gets in the back of the car. It begins on rails, with the player as Jason shooting while Lucia drives, then switches to the player driving.
Missions that involve systems like the wanted level or the robbery system are designed not to feel inconsistent with the open world, Nelson said.
Nelson added that he believes GTA 6 is built for fans to replay multiple times, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.
Earlier conversation now published in full
IGN spoke to Nelson earlier this year about the balance between freedom and storytelling in GTA 6, and that interview has now been published in full.
