Rockstar says GTA 6 can become a roleplay sandbox

In an Edge interview, Rockstar's Aaron Garbutt said players can shape GTA 6 into a roleplay experience, while Rob Nelson warned about system overload.

Rockstar Games developers said Grand Theft Auto 6 can be shaped by players into a roleplay experience, with activities such as buying cigarettes and beer or riding the train, in an interview with Edge magazine. Head of development Aaron Garbutt described the game as open to that kind of player-driven play.

Head of development Rob Nelson said the studio has to balance the added systems so players do not reject them for being too numerous. He said Rockstar wants players to find their favourite activities and settle into a rhythm rather than constantly adding new ones.

Lead developer Phil Hooker said he personally checks during playtesting that in-game buses run on time and to the right places, and that he has memorised all the routes.

According to gamesradar.com, which reported the interview, players may go hours in Grand Theft Auto 6 without engaging core systems such as the Wanted system.
