Layden: Bloodborne sequel held up by rights involving Sony and FromSoftware
The former Sony Interactive Entertainment America chief said on a podcast that getting every rights holder to sign off is likely the biggest obstacle to a new Bloodborne.
Former Sony Interactive Entertainment America president and CEO Shawn Layden said on The Trophy Room podcast that a Bloodborne sequel or remake has not happened partly because of rights involving the parties tied to the game, according to gamesradar.com.
Layden said getting Sony, FromSoftware and FromSoftware's parent company to sign off on everything is probably the biggest challenge standing in the way of a new entry or a remake.
He also pointed to the wider difficulty of bringing back older games, saying it means respecting the original while recreating the phenomenon.
Bloodborne was co-developed by FromSoftware and Japan Studio, which was closed in 2020. Earlier, Japan Studio and Bluepoint Games worked on a Demon's Souls remake, which has fuelled hopes among players for similar treatment of FromSoftware titles.
