Niftski Sets New Super Mario Bros. World Record in Mario Costume
Speedrunner Niftski completed the any percent run in 4:54.299 during a Halloween stream, beating his August record by 0.33 seconds.
Speedrunner Niftski set a new any percent world record for Super Mario Bros. with a time of 4:54.299 during a Halloween stream, according to kotaku.com. The run beats his previous record of 4:54.332, set in August 2026, by 0.33 seconds.
Niftski completed the record attempt dressed as Mario, speaking in a Mario voice and wearing a fake mustache. He said the costume and voice made him not nervous at all, and that the run felt casual.
The two frames lost during the run came in the initial stretch of the game, Niftski said. The new time leaves Super Mario Bros. three milliseconds away from a theoretical perfect record.
Niftski already holds the Super Mario Bros. records for warpless, glitchless and any percent runs. Super Mario Bros. was released in 1985, and its record only dipped below the five-minute mark around 2010, when Andrew Gardikis reignited the scene with a new blueprint for future runners.
