Nintendo Says Remakes Matter as Much as New Games

Nate Bihldorff told Polygon that revisiting games like Ocarina of Time is deeply satisfying, but he did not name future remakes.

Nintendo senior vice president of product development and publishing Nate Bihldorff said remakes and new games hold equal importance in the company's lineup, in an interview with Polygon published on November 7, 2026.

Bihldorff said revisiting "very special games" such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time brings deep satisfaction. He added that the Ocarina of Time team understood the scale of the project and wanted to bring the game to a new generation.

He also said Nintendo's broad library of franchises, which appeal to different audiences, gives the company freedom to decide what to work on next. He did not say which other classics might receive a remake.

The comments follow a year in which Star Fox and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were among Nintendo's biggest remakes. The Ocarina of Time remake launched on November 5, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2 and holds an average critic score of 95 out of 100 on OpenCritic, with 100% of top critics recommending it.

According to Bloomberg, Nintendo reported a surprise quarterly profit decline, attributed to a lack of major new game releases and rising Switch 2 component costs.
