Switch 2 Ocarina of Time Remake Adds Jump Button, Drops Auto-Jump
Nintendo's Ask the Developer interview details two control schemes for the Jump Attack and explains why Link now jumps on demand.
Nintendo's Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time adds a dedicated jump button and removes auto-jump, according to an Ask the Developer interview reported by gamesradar.com. Program director Hiroki Taguchi and director HokWai Ng are quoted on the change.
The remake carries the jump button over from more recent Zelda titles, giving players direct control over when Link leaves the ground rather than relying on the game to trigger a hop.
Players will also get a choice in how they perform the Jump Attack: the remake supports a single-button version and a two-step version, so the move can be executed in whichever style a player prefers.
The interview also features comments from Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, producer Hidemaro Fujibayashi and art director Aya Shida.
How the original handled jumping
In the original Ocarina of Time, which released 28 years before the article, Link could only hop at specific points by pushing the control stick, and the Jump Attack used a single button. Taguchi first joined the Zelda team to work on Breath of the Wild.
