Suda51 Outlines Grasshopper's Post-NetEase Plans
The studio founder wants an international release for Moonlight Syndrome and a 20th-anniversary push for No More Heroes.
Suda51 has laid out what comes next for Grasshopper Manufacture now that the studio is independent of NetEase Games, according to Kotaku. In an interview, the founder said the studio hopes to release an unannounced new game next year and is recruiting new team members.
He said a previously promised plan to develop three large games over 10 years under NetEase will have to change. The studio became independent of NetEase at the beginning of October.
Suda51 also said he wants Grasshopper Manufacture to work on other interesting IPs alongside his own titles, naming Mobile Suit Gundam and Marvel's Deadpool as series he would like to work with. He added that the studio is examining platforms including Roblox.
No More Heroes and a Moonlight Syndrome return
Suda51 said he would love the studio to do something special for the 20th anniversary of No More Heroes, whose IP is owned by Marvelous, and that protagonist Travis Touchdown is coming back. He also said he wants to return to the ideas behind Moonlight Syndrome.
Moonlight Syndrome was released by Human Entertainment in 1997 for PlayStation and has never had an official overseas release. Suda51 said he hopes to give the game an international release.
Under NetEase, Grasshopper Manufacture promised to develop three large games within 10 years, with February's Romeo Is a Dead Man being one of them. Earlier this year the studio held a demo event in Shibuya PARCO for that game and said another new game would release this year, but it did not.
