Andy Weir's New Novel Passes 95,000 Words, About a Year From Release

Weir also confirmed the book is not about AI and said he will not return to Project Hail Mary without an idea he is happy with.

Andy Weir said his current novel has passed 95,000 words and he is well into the third act of the first draft, according to an interview with ScreenRant. The author estimated it will be roughly a year before the book reaches shelves.

Weir described the book as a standalone sci-fi story, not a sequel to anything. He also ruled out artificial intelligence as its subject, saying he wrote a little of that idea and stopped because it was bad.

The author said he will not revisit his 2021 novel Project Hail Mary unless he comes up with an idea he is happy with.

Separately, Weir executive-produced the Audible original audiobook Exoplanet, written by Benjamin Percy. It releases exclusively on Audible on November 5 and stars Anthony Mackie, Ariana DeBose and John Leguizamo, centering on a starship crew sent to different eras by a quantum anomaly.
