Bill Hader's Cat in the Hat Debuts in Los Angeles Ahead of Nov. 6 Opening
The animated Dr. Seuss adaptation held its LA premiere Sunday, with Hader saying his take differs from his earlier Saturday Night Live version.
The animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss' 1957 children's book "The Cat in the Hat," with Bill Hader voicing the title character, held its Los Angeles premiere on Sunday, according to hollywoodreporter.com. The film opens in theaters Nov. 6.
At the premiere, Hader said his portrayal of the character in a Saturday Night Live sketch was a much different version than the family-friendly one in the new film. He also said he had never seen the 2003 live-action version starring Mike Myers.
Writer/directors Erica Rivinoja and Alessandro Carloni praised Hader's voice work and his emotional acting in the role. Rivinoja said the book's plot makes up just the first few minutes of the movie, which then follows where the cat goes afterward.
The voice cast also includes Quinta Brunson, America Ferrera, Matt Berry, Bowen Yang, Xochitl Gomez, Giancarlo Esposito and Tituss Burgess.
Earlier versions of the character
In 2014, Hader played a more adult version of the Cat in the Hat in a Saturday Night Live sketch. Myers starred in the 2003 live-action film.
