UK anti-harassment law takes effect for film and TV crews
Producers are urged to revise bullying and harassment policies after the Employment Rights Act change, with official guidance not due until 2027.
UK-wide legislation making employers liable for harassment of staff, cast and crew by third parties came into force on Friday 30 أكتوبر 2026, prompting film and TV production companies to review their policies, according to Deadline.
Under the change, part of the UK's Employment Rights Act, employers must take "all reasonable steps" to prevent harassment, and claims can be brought up to six months after an incident.
Pact, the UK producer trade body, has moved to brief its members. Its legal chief sent members a note urging them to update anti-harassment and bullying policies. The training body ScreenSkills has also updated the anti-bullying and harassment module on its training passport in line with the legislation.
Detailed government guidance on the law will only be available from early 2027. A few weeks before the article was published, an Acas survey found that two-fifths of employers across all industries were unaware of the changes in law.
