Agility and FORT to build humanoid robot safety tech

Agility Robotics and FORT Robotics will jointly develop safety hardware for humanoid robots, applied to the Digit 5, as Caterpillar and CoreWeave unveil a physical AI pipeline.

Agility Robotics and FORT Robotics announced a partnership to jointly develop robot safety technology for humanoid robots. The technology will be applied to the humanoid robot Digit 5.

The two companies are developing two safety technologies: the Offboard Safety Bridge and a safety pendant. The Offboard Safety Bridge complements onboard safety functions by linking the robot with surrounding equipment, while the safety pendant combines an emergency stop button and an enabling switch into a single handheld device.

Separately, Caterpillar and CoreWeave unveiled a joint strategy to accelerate physical AI for large construction machinery. The two companies built a joint pipeline that reduces the AI training feedback loop for autonomous heavy equipment from months to hours.

Researchers from CIIRC and Inria proposed DepthWorld, a world model approach that incorporates 3D depth information. DepthWorld uses a DROID-3D calibration pipeline to reconstruct robot teleoperation data into precise 3D coordinates.

The calibration method reduced camera position error from 72mm to 4.9mm and orientation error from 3.0 degrees to 0.39 degrees, and lowered the average joint offset error to 0.14 degrees. DepthWorld uses Spatial Latent Tiling to feed color video and depth maps side by side into a pretrained model, and achieved 24.09dB PSNR from external camera viewpoints, compared with 22.63dB for a color-based world model.

Earlier work

Agility Robotics had a tablet-mount device called Pendant Sled custom-made in early 2026. Caterpillar has been expanding the application scope of its CAT AI Assistant, and in June 2026 it partnered with Field AI to secure autonomous driving and robot control technology.
