Amazon's delivery driver smart glasses will reportedly take photos almost constantly while in use, capturing images of people and private property, according to Bloomberg. The glasses could take several thousand captures in a single driver's typical shift.
Amazon plans to upload the images to its AI Wellspring platform. Viraj Chatterjee, an Amazon executive, said the company hasn't thought about whether customers can opt out. He said the data is only used to enhance the delivery process and that the intent has never been surveillance.
Chatterjee said Amazon's systems will blur people and license plates before images are passed along for human review. Amazon confirmed images from the smart glasses could be obtained with a warrant, per Bloomberg. There reportedly won't be a way for customers to see or request deletion of images Amazon has of them or their property.
Amazon plans to put 20,000 more pairs of the glasses in the field by the end of 2027. Drivers wearing the glasses in a pilot program have already made over 275,000 deliveries.
In October 2025, Amazon's delivery drivers have had AI cameras watching in their vehicles and complained about issues including failing to register secured seat belts, being forced to pull over to take a sip of coffee, and footage leaking online.
