Android 17 reaches only about 1% of devices since June release

Android 16 is now the most-used Android version at 25.4% of active devices, according to distribution data from heise.de via Android Studio.

Android 17 is running on about 1% of active Android devices, according to the latest distribution data reported by ZDNET, which cites figures from heise.de collected via Android Studio and first highlighted by Android Authority. The release arrived in June 2026.

Android 16 is now the most-used version of the platform, at 25.4% of active devices. Android 14 sits second at 15.%, followed by Android 15 at 14.7%.

Older builds still account for a large share: Android 13 runs on 11.8% of devices and Android 11 on 10.1%, with almost another 10% still on Android 12.

Overall, roughly 60% of active Android devices run Android 14 or newer, meaning about 40% have not upgraded to Android 14 or later.

A shorter runway than Android 16

Android 17 has had less time to reach devices than Android 16 did when the previous distribution snapshot was published, which limits how far the new version could have spread by now.
