Rovo Road unveils AI road repair robots and Rovo-Mobil platform
Rovo Road says its robotic patching cut repair costs by about 70% in field tests and plans AI road surveys for 226 local governments.
Rovo Road, a technology company that combines AI, new materials and robotics for road maintenance and repair, announced its integrated system for detecting road damage with AI and repairing it using unmanned robots, according to a company statement. The system includes the B-R1 repair material, the MK2 and MK3 robots and the Rovo-Mobil electric vehicle platform.
The detection setup uses an edge-device camera mounted on vehicles to film the road continuously. AI analyzes the footage for damage and sends the information to a cloud control system. For repairs, the company developed B-R1, a thermoplastic powder asphalt material optimized for robotic work, and paired it with the MK2 and MK3 robots, which are deployed to damaged sections to carry out the repair process.
In the company's own field tests, switching section repaving from manual and mechanical methods to robotic patching reduced repair costs by about 70%.
Rovo Road is also developing Rovo-Mobil, a modular-swappable electric vehicle platform intended for various missions. CEO Kim Nam-ho previously served as a chief engineer at the Renault and Alpine F1 teams.
Plans for local governments and paving companies
The company plans to offer AI road condition survey services to 226 basic local governments, tailored to their budgets, and then expand sales and leasing of robots and dedicated carrier EVs to domestic paving construction companies. Rovo Road raised seed investment from Seoul National University Technology Holdings, BDC-Infobank and BNK Venture Investment, and was selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' 2026 Early Startup Package (deep tech specialized type), with support from the Daejeon Center for Creative Economy and Innovation.
