SK Telecom Publishes AI Governance Report, Details Math Research Tie-Up
SK Telecom said its CPO oversees personal data protection and integrated AI governance, and held a math-focused exchange with Seoul National University and KAIST.
SK Telecom announced on October 26 that it has published an "AI Governance Report" setting out its AI governance strategy and decision-making structure, its principles, systems, implementation plans and results. The company said its CPO oversees personal information protection and integrated AI governance management.
The report accompanied news of an October 22 technical exchange meeting with professors from Seoul National University and KAIST. According to techm.kr, the session focused on researching difficult mathematics problems using Adot X K2, SK Telecom's own AI foundation model, and on ways to advance the model.
SK Telecom said it plans to pursue AI model mathematics learning and challenges jointly with researchers at each university.
Kim Tae-yoon, head of SK Telecom's Foundation Model division, said the company is actively pursuing industry-academia cooperation in mathematics to improve the foundation model's real-world problem-solving ability.
Governance work predates the report
SK Telecom established its human-centered AI values in 2021 and announced its AI governance principles "T.H.E. AI" — from Telco, Humanity and Ethics — in March 2024. In 2024 the company obtained ISO/IEC 42001 certification for its AI management system, and this year it acquired certification for its in-house AI agent management system.
