Ishimura Patch mod cuts Dead Space Remake PC stutters
Community mod by lukeman3000 lifts 0.1% lows by 176% in a CapFrameX benchmark of a fast traversal through the Ishimura.
A community mod called Ishimura Patch has been released to address the traversal stutters that affect the PC version of Dead Space Remake. The mod was developed by modder lukeman3000, according to wccftech.com.
The patch preallocates larger blocks of GPU memory and subdivides them into smaller allocations, reducing the number of per-frame allocation requests. It also optimizes the GPU copy queue and texture streaming behavior.
In an initial Reddit demonstration, the developer reported cutting a 106 ms frame-time spike to about 13 ms. A website with interactive frame-time comparisons has been published, and the source code is available publicly on GitHub.
Benchmark results
Testing used an Intel Core i7-14700K and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, with CapFrameX capturing a roughly 30-second fast traversal through part of the USG Ishimura. Average FPS rose from 292.8 to 305.3, a 4.3% improvement, while 1% low FPS climbed from 83.9 to 157.6, an 87.8% gain.
The 0.1% low FPS increased from 35.7 to 98.6, a 176.2% improvement, and the worst frame time in the benchmark fell from about 45 ms to about 14 ms. CapFrameX classified about 0.73 seconds (2.4%) of the vanilla benchmark as stuttering, against 0.04 seconds (0.1%) with the mod installed.
Dead Space Remake was released nearly four years before this article and has been known for persistent traversal stutters on PC regardless of hardware. Earlier workarounds involved slower storage devices or deliberately throttling asset streaming.
