Canceled Mass Effect game details surface as petition passes 210,000
Romain Toutain described customizable protagonists and timeline systems in the canceled BioWare project; the Change.org petition keeps growing.
Romain Toutain, technical director of the canceled Mass Effect Universe game, shared new details about the project during a Twitch live stream over the weekend, a recording of which was posted by a viewer on Bluesky, according to wccftech.com.
Toutain said the player character would be customizable and that bar-fight-style moves were available. He also said the game let players connect playthroughs to build timelines, comparing the feature to Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma and calling it somewhat like Dragon Age Keep.
According to Toutain, a system could check whether player decisions were logically valid and add the conditions needed to make them valid, or fail a quest when a required character had been killed. He described the project as built around absolute autonomy and said people compared it to Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and that there was an idea for sharing playthroughs.
He also said Electronic Arts is not known for selling IPs and would rather shut projects down and keep its licenses.
The #SaveMassEffect petition on Change.org has passed 210,000 signatures. Male and female Shepard voice actors Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale have backed the campaign, as has Owlcat Games, the studio behind The Expanse: Osiris Reborn.
