BTR Overtakes Shanshan in Anode Loading as Top Two Share Falls to 39.5%
SNE Research data shows BTR took the top spot in anode material loading from January to August, while the combined share of the top two makers dropped from 41.8%.
BTR overtook Shanshan to take first place in anode material loading from January to August this year, according to SNE Research, which reported the shift in ranking among Chinese anode material makers competing on cost and yield of artificial graphite. BTR had ranked second in the same period last year.
The combined share of the top two anode makers fell from 41.8% to 39.5%, even as global anode material loaded in electric vehicles rose 21.1% year-on-year from January to August. The market excluding China grew faster, at 27.5%, and its share of total anode loading rose 2 percentage points.
Among the top 10 firms, eight were Chinese, with Posco Future M and Japan's Hitachi Chemical the only exceptions. Posco Future M was the sole Korean company in the top 10 but ranked ninth with a 15.5% decrease in loading. Shinzum ranked fifth and grew 51.1%, the fastest growth among major firms.
MetalsHub stated that 98% of the world's graphite processing facilities are located in China. In March, the European Commission proposed the Industrial Acceleration Act, which would require at least five battery components to be sourced from EU origin three years after the law takes effect.
Under the draft, cells, cathode materials, and battery management systems are mandatory local components, with the other two unspecified. The proposal also allows products from countries with a free trade agreement with the EU to be recognized as equivalent to EU-made products under certain conditions.
