Samsung to Split Premium TVs Into AI TV Basic, Plus and Ultra

Samsung Electronics will restructure its premium TV lineup from next year and end mass production of quantum dot TVs after next year, etnews.com reports.

Samsung Electronics plans to restructure its premium TV lineup into three tiers — AI TV Basic, AI TV Plus and AI TV Ultra — starting next year, according to etnews.com. The entry-level Crystal UHD LCD models will sit outside the new structure.

The naming follows the standard, Plus and Ultra structure already used for the company's Galaxy S smartphone series, tying the TV range to a branding pattern familiar from its phones.

Samsung will also end mass production of quantum dot (QD) TVs after next year. Higher-end sets supplied from next year will be based on backlight technologies such as mini LED and micro LED.

The company aims to shift its TV business revenue model away from hardware sales toward AI-based subscription services.

A break with a technology-led lineup

Samsung had kept a technology-name-centered TV lineup for a long period, and quantum dot TVs have been one pillar of its premium range for nearly 10 years. Its TV shipments came to around 35 million units this year.
