Sharp launches 8-model Plasmacluster R air conditioner series

All R series units meet Japan's fiscal 2027 energy-saving standards, with direct-sale prices from 334,400 yen to 489,500 yen.

Sharp released its Plasmacluster Air Conditioner R series on October 29, 2026, a lineup of eight models that all meet Japan's fiscal 2027 energy-saving standards. The range runs from the 6-tatami AY-W22RS to the 23-tatami AY-W71RL2, according to kaden.watch.impress.co.jp. Prices are open, with direct-sale prices between 334,400 yen and 489,500 yen.

The units are designed to limit mold in the air they blow out. By filling the interior with ions both during and after stoppage, Sharp says the air conditioners reduce mold contained in the outgoing air by more than 99.0%. A mold-resistant "Kabi-karakatto fan" uses a super-hydrophilic nano coating that spreads water droplets thin to shorten drying time.

Two new functions target summer operation. "Saratto AI cooling" finely controls the compressor when room temperature is stable to hold a comfortable temperature and humidity, while the "Mousho Mimamori" mode starts cooling automatically when the WBGT heat index reaches 28°C or higher, or when room temperature reaches 35°C or higher.

The R series also supports Sharp's integrated AI service NIAH, which guides operation and care through a smartphone app and suggests modes based on weather and registered schedules. Sharp began offering NIAH in September 2026.
