Samsung Electronics to buy Samsung Display's 10.16% CSOT stake for 1.2718 trillion won
The TV division will take over the entire CSOT holding in December and plans to raise its share of BOE panel purchases, according to ZDNet Korea.
Samsung Electronics' TV (VD) division has agreed to buy all of Samsung Display's 10.16% stake in Chinese panel maker CSOT for 1.2718 trillion won, with the transaction scheduled for December, according to ZDNet Korea.
The company gave strengthening a strategic cooperative relationship as the stated purpose of the acquisition.
Samsung Electronics' VD division also plans to increase its share of TV LCD procurement from BOE going forward.
Samsung Display's holding in CSOT dates back to 2020, when it sold its Suzhou 8.5G LCD plant to CSOT and its stake rose from 5.02% to 12.33%. It received CSOT shares rather than cash for the $739 million sale of its 60% stake in the front-end line, and exited the LCD business in the first half of 2022.
The two Chinese suppliers have been entangled in litigation: in March 2026 CSOT filed a patent infringement suit against Samsung Display and others in the Eastern District of Texas, and Samsung Display responded with patent invalidation claims. In October 2026, Samsung Electronics reportedly signed an MOU with BOE to lift TV LCD procurement to 6-7 million units in 2027 and 8-9 million in 2028, up from 2.2 million units bought from BOE in 2025, according to Omdia.
