Sony ECM-W5 wireless mic adds 32-bit float, ships November 20

The ECM-W5 kit pairs two 64GB transmitters with a touch-panel receiver and supports four channels when extra transmitters are added.

Sony will release the ECM-W5 wireless microphone on Friday, November 20, 2026, the company announced. The base package bundles two transmitters and one receiver at 59,400 yen, and the transmitters and receiver are also sold separately.

The ECM-W5 supports 32-bit float recording in-camera when paired with compatible α-series cameras, the α7R VI and α7 V. Each transmitter carries 64GB of built-in memory and can capture 32-bit float audio on its own, without a camera attached.

The receiver gains a touch panel monitor and a dial. It also accepts analog microphone input and provides a microphone output, and Sony includes a USB Type-C adapter for connecting to a smartphone.

The system supports up to four channels when additional transmitters are added. Noise reduction is limited to OFF and ON settings, with no intermediate levels.

Practical limits

Two details stand out for buyers. The bundled case cannot store the transmitters with their windscreens attached.

Sony previously offered the ECM-W3, with two transmitters, and the ECM-W3S, with one. dc.watch.impress.co.jp reported the ECM-W5 announcement.
