Onimusha: Way of the Sword director says final difficulty matches intent

Satoru Nihei told PC Gamer that in-game data on where players struggle shows trends close to what Capcom's team intended.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword game director Satoru Nihei has said he believes the game's final difficulty level is the right one, according to eurogamer.net. Speaking to PC Gamer, Nihei said players do stumble, die and get defeated at points, but are able to overcome those moments and progress.

Nihei said the team did not set out to make the game particularly difficult in the mould of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice or the Nioh series. Instead, Capcom monitors in-game data showing where players struggle and how they advance, and he said the trends are close to the intended difficulty.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Demo debates and launch sales

Before launch, the pre-launch demo divided players, with some finding the combat exciting and challenging and others finding it too easy. Some demo criticisms, chiefly passive enemies that wait to be attacked, remain in the final release but are less pronounced.

At launch, the game became a million-seller, and it has been critically acclaimed, with Eurogamer's review praising how it advances the action genre without relying on Soulslike tropes.
