VRChat to move from Built-in Render Pipeline to URP

VRChat says an upcoming Android-to-iOS transpile SDK will double as a test for its eventual Universal Render Pipeline migration.

VRChat Inc. announced on November 5, 2026 that VRChat plans to migrate from Unity's Built-in Render Pipeline to the Universal Render Pipeline (URP), according to automaton-media.com.

The company said an upcoming SDK will include a transpile option that automatically converts Android builds into iOS builds. That Android-to-iOS feature will also serve as a test for the eventual URP migration.

VRChat asked users to report worlds that fail to transpile, or that show pink shaders on iOS after a transpile succeeds. The same post described a feature that lets desktop users control avatar arms with a mouse, a "Here" display in the quick menu and a refreshed quick profile.

A Unity 6-compatible SDK for avatar and world creators will soon be released as an open beta.

Earlier statements

In June 2026, VRChat's "Developer Update – 25 June 2026" said Unity 6 support was progressing but that the render pipeline would not change and a URP migration was not yet planned. Version 2026.3.3 added official Unity 6 support on October 2, 2026. Unity 6 made URP the standard render pipeline in place of the deprecated Built-in Render Pipeline.
